Coming up soon is Hearing awareness week. The official theme is “Hearing is Precious and Fragile” and it runs from 23rd – 29th August. The official website is at: www.hearingawarenessweek.org.au
It is important to find out just how good your hearing is and not just waiting until you have hearing issues and finding out how much hearing you have lost.
If you think that you or your child may have hearing problems, see a qualified Audiologist. They will check your ear for any problems, such as earwax or a perforated eardrum. Your Audiologist may recommend you see your GP and then an ENT surgeon if it is medically treatable
Hearing tests are routinely and are carried out on newborn babies within the first few weeks to try and identify any hearing problems.
Worried about hearing loss in your family? There is a strong genetic component to even noise induced hearing loss.
Nolene is speaking during Hearing Awareness Week to the Healthy Hearing Nurses in Brisbane and loves being able to help people find out how not only to live well with hearing loss but how to protect their hearing loss and never get to the point where they need hearing aids.
All information is provided in the interests of Hearing Health education and is of a general nature. In all cases you should consult your doctor or other allied health professional for advice regarding your individual circumstances.
